Here’s a draft of the virtual moderator training email …

Thank you for helping as a virtual attendee moderator for the 2025 Water for Food Global Conference!

Below are some detailed instructions on how to login to the event platform as a virtual moderator. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Virtual Attendee Moderator

As a virtual attendee moderator, you’ll serve as a liaison between virtual attendees and session speakers.

  • Several days before the conference starts, logon to the conference website and become familiar with the platform:
  • Browse through these instructions and screenshots so you know what to expect:
  • Arrive at your assigned session 10 minutes prior to the session start with your own laptop. You can review your sessions here.
  • Locate the wireless mic and find the on/off switch. You’ll turn this on and use it to relay questions during the Q&A/Discussion periods.
  • Ensure you can log on to conference wifi (or eduroam):
    • Network name: NU-Guest
    • Username: waterforfood
    • Password: 2025conference
  • You have virtual moderator access for all sessions. Navigate to your assigned session and enter the session.
  • You’ll see a chat box and Q&A area.
  • As the session opens, type the following into the chat box:
    • “Welcome! As we get started, please share your name, your organization and where you are located. As the session proceeds please type any questions you have for our speakers in the Q&A area, rather than here in the chat box.”
    • You can remind them of this as the session goes on and add additional commentary if you’d like.
    • Here’s another prompt to use if you wish. “Have additional questions for a speaker? Want to connect with another attendee? Send a message to connect with them in the conference app!”
  • Our A/V team will keep an eye on livestreaming and attend to any video or audio issues.
  • During the Q&A/Discussion time for your session, pose the most interesting/thoughtful questions or the ones with the most votes to the session speakers. You may not have time to address all of them, as there will also be questions from our in-person audience.
