Hi team,
I don’t know if I will be able to attend any of these events, but she said that they are open to all faculty, staff, and students – so you are all welcome to attend. The alumni center is very nice, usually a little bit dressier, so they will likely be good events!

Hello team,
This is an announcement that I thought you might find interesting. This is also my second time asking you to email me to tell me if you received this email (if you are on the Morrison mailing list) or not. At this point I’ve only heard from Portia, Arjun, and Sofi (so you three do not need to reply). Jayla might not have been on this mailing list when I sent out the first request, but the rest of you just need to send me an email saying yes or no I did not get the original email and am therefore not on the Morrison mailing list.

Hi everyone,
I had to go to FedEx to send samples yesterday before it was too late, so I am not sure if you went through the chemicals and got what you needed. If you haven't done so already, please feel free to go ahead and look though our chemicals cabinet before Friday. Whatever is left over will be sent to EHS on Friday. Hello team,
This is a voluntary survey that is happening at UNL. I have no connection to this and will not know if you participate or not, but it sounds like a good way to be entered into a raffle to win $50, so I wanted to share.
I asked the organizer and all undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to participate, no matter what your age is.

This is a survey for students. Feel free to distribute.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Email Content:
Dear CASNR student,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Bo Garcia, meat science faculty member at UNL and I am conducting a research project titled "Generation Z in Higher Education”. The aim of this mixed methods research project is to determine the learning preferences of current (Generation Z) college students within the College of Agriculture, Science, and Natural Resources (CASNR) at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and we believe your insight would be invaluable in helping us achieve our objectives.
Participation in this study is voluntary and consent will be required for participation. Your contribution to this study would involve a completed questionnaire asking about your learning preferences and expectations as a current student. Questionnaire completion is estimated to take approximately 10 minutes of your time. Also, your participation may result in a $50 gift card lottery/raffle prize.
Thank you very much for considering this invitation. Your participation would be greatly appreciated and would make a significant contribution to the advancement of our research project. Additionally, if you have any questions or would like more information about the study, please don't hesitate to ask.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hello everyone,
As you may recall (previous email), we are not having 1-on-1 meetings on Thursday because of other meetings that I am required to attend.
We will still have our lab group meeting on Tuesday.
If you need to meet with me 1-on-1 please plan to come to my office hours tomorrow (12-2:45 pm).
I will be in my office giving an exam to a student from 11 am – 12 pm. If she finishes early you can come in as soon as she is gone.

Hi team,
We have been asked to move storage items out of the student offices on the 3rd floor and into the storage area. We for sure need to move our table legs and the outreach items. I can go up to the area with someone on Monday to point out what needs to be moved and where it needs to go if that would be helpful.

I’m going to need to skip our Thursday meetings, so if you could email me with questions/updates I will get back to you when I can. I’m planning on getting some sleep over the next couple of days, but will be also trying to get some work done too – it will just depend on how I’m feeling.

Gentle reminder for everyone – especially as you are training new students this fall - common equipment rooms in Morrison are LAB spaces. Remember that food and drink are NOT allowed in working lab spaces. This is for your own safety. The below picture is from 9/12/24 in MOLR 220 (and this is not a first occurrence).

Hi team,
We have been given permission to use room 256 for our new confocal microscope.
Since Portia is going to be in charge of the microscope to start, I would like to ask her to organize a time for everyone to work on clearing out the room and getting everything set up. That time might not be for a few weeks, I will leave it up to her to decide. But I would appreciate if everyone helps when she gets this set up.
Thanks,

What are these marks? Is it from acids/piranha solution? If you spill liquid on the floor, you need to clean it up immediately! I do not want our lab to be responsible for replacing the floor – it will be incredibly expensive, cutting into the number of students/post docs we can support.
Please check your area during/after every experiment.
How can we make sure that this does not continue to happen?

Subject: Lab 257 - Floor Stains
Hi Nicole
Something is being spilled on the Floor in Lab Room 257 and staining it, Custodial has tried mopping and using a cleaning pad without success. Since these floors are rubber spills soak into the floor instead of sitting on top if not cleaned up right away.
They only way to remove these stains is a process of restoring the floor that is very labor intensive and costly. Could you please let your lab occupants know to be more careful and to clean up spills at the time they happen.
Thank You

Do we have any images that would be good for this? They need to be from the nanotechnology facility on City Campus, so our normal cell/SWNT images from our lab wouldn’t work.
I believe that quite a few of you have been over to Jorgenson to take SEM, TEM, etc. images, anything interesting in those?
If you have an interesting image and idea but no time we might get someone else to volunteer to help with the pseudocoloring.

Hi all, it's that time of year again to get some of you to submit images for the “Plenty of Beauty at the Bottom Contest.” The images need to be submitted by Sept 13th, which is a little over 2 weeks away. In past years our images have placed 1st and 2nd in one of the 3 categories. Please consider sending us an image if you have one. Attached is the information for this year’s competition, and the form needed to be submitted with your image. If you see any names missing from the email, please forward this on to those individuals so they have a chance to compete. When you read the rules in the attachment, you will need to submit your entry to me for judging, as only one photo can be submitted per category from each site. This also means, I would like the entries a couple days before the deadline of Sept. 13th. Let me know if you have any further questions, and good luck in this artistic endeavor. Thanks, Steve

Subject: Improving lab management and lab culture — interview request
Caution: Non-NU Email
Hi Portia,
I am writing because you are a graduate student or a postdoc at a biomedical / life sciences lab at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. My name is Ulkar and I'm part of a team of social scientists and economists who want to find out what it means for a biomedical research lab to be “well managed” or to have a supportive culture for trainees. We were drawn to spend time on this work because we suspect — based on anecdotes and evidence from other sectors of the economy — that improvements in lab management practices and lab culture have the potential to unlock a tremendous amount of scientific energy, make the experience of graduate students and postdocs more rewarding, and set them up for success in the future when they will be in charge of their own labs.
If your lab has 2 people or more beyond the PI, we invite you to participate in our study. Your contribution would only involve a phone interview lasting about 1-1.5 hours, and you can withdraw at any point. Please note that labs engaged in research involving human subjects are not eligible for this opportunity. We are also not including labs engaged in field work, such as ecology labs, at this time.
All interviews will be confidential, and we will compensate you for your time with $75.

Please note you are receiving this email because you were listed as a lab member on your lab’s website within the past year. If you are no longer in this lab, apologies and please disregard this invitation. If you have moved to another lab and would like to participate, please let us know by replying to this email.
Hi team,
Please find attached the schedule for the semester! We will be assigning lab chores next week so let's all make it a point to be present. Also, if there is time we can all talk about our expectations/goals for the Semester as a Lab and be accountable to each other when the semester ends :).
Find it attached, let me know if you have questions!
Enjoy your weekend!

We will be having our group meetings on Tuesdays at 3 – 4:30 pm in room 145 Morrison.
We will start right away on 8/27. This meeting will be a discussion about what we want our plans to be for the semester, so it might be short.
