Subject: Improving lab management and lab culture — interview request

Caution: Non-NU Email

Hi Portia,

I am writing because you are a graduate student or a postdoc at a biomedical / life sciences lab at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. My name is Ulkar and I'm part of a team of social scientists and economists who want to find out what it means for a biomedical research lab to be “well managed” or to have a supportive culture for trainees. We were drawn to spend time on this work because we suspect — based on anecdotes and evidence from other sectors of the economy — that improvements in lab management practices and lab culture have the potential to unlock a tremendous amount of scientific energy, make the experience of graduate students and postdocs more rewarding, and set them up for success in the future when they will be in charge of their own labs.

If your lab has 2 people or more beyond the PI, we invite you to participate in our study. Your contribution would only involve a phone interview lasting about 1-1.5 hours, and you can withdraw at any point. Please note that labs engaged in research involving human subjects are not eligible for this opportunity. We are also not including labs engaged in field work, such as ecology labs, at this time.

All interviews will be confidential, and we will compensate you for your time with $75

To sign up for an interview, please pick a time here: https://calendly.com/slmp-book/interview
