Hello everyone (including males, we need males to help with this event too!),
As I’ve mentioned in the group meeting, there is a Women in Science event on Friday (4/5) and Saturday (4/6) during which female high school students from around the state come to UNL to learn about science/engineering. We participated last year and it was a lot of fun! It would be great if as many people as possible could participate this year too.
Please email back to everyone and let us know if you will or will not participate. Maybe we can have a running list of who will and will not attend. I need to know by the end of this week. I will see if I can get T-shirts for you to wear at Saturday’s event, so also list your T-shirt size if you can attend on Saturday.
Here is the information:
Friday, 4/5: You would be assisting the professors that are going to be running the event. You will help to direct the students in case they try to wander away from the group. This event is less important than Saturday, but if a few of you could help it would be greatly appreciated!
2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Tour Schedule: 2:00 – 2:25 p.m. Tour #1 2:25 – 2:30 p.m. Rotate 2:30 – 2:55 p.m. Tour #2 2:55 – 3:00 p.m. Rotate 3:00 – 3:25 p.m. Tour #3

Saturday, 4/6: Samereh will be leading you in two sessions during which you will work with 15 – 20 students to teach them about BME in general and protein folding specifically. You will walk around the room going from group to group to help the students and in general just offer them support. You will also be able to talk to them about your experiences and answer any questions that they have. Event is at the Willa Cather Dining complex on the first floor. Set up for event is at 9 am First group of students 9:30 – 10:30 am Second group of students 10:45 – 11:45 am
Anyone that is participating in these events needs to fill out a form (super quick) by Friday. Here is the information: Complete YASP form - As this event involves minors, everyone participating must complete the youth activity safety form. Please go to https://scimath-portal.unl.edu/upcoming-events and click on Upcoming Events and choose 2024 Youth Activity Worker Sign Up. If this is first time visiting in the portal, you will be asked to create an account.
Let me know if you have any questions and thanks in advance for your participation in this event!
