Happy Holidays from the NeSIS Team!!
As we head into the final stretch of the semester, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU for all the hard work, dedication, and positive energy you’ve brought to your jobs every day. Whether you’ve been troubleshooting issues, coordinating with campus offices, testing new upgrades, or just lending a hand to a teammate, your efforts have made a real difference.
This time of year can get a little wild, but you’ve shown what collaboration and comradery look like in action. Let’s keep that momentum going and finish out the semester strong! Remember, every bit of effort you put in now helps set us up for success next year. Let’s wrap up the semester with a bang and come back ready for new adventures in the new year.
Wishing you all a happy holiday season—hope you get some well-deserved rest and time with family and friends. You’ve earned it!

1098-T Reporting Updates for NeSIS Campuses
As tax season approaches, the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska State College System are preparing to generate IRS Form 1098-T for students. This form is used to report eligible tuition and fees, along with certain payments that may affect a student’s education-related tax credits. Most students will receive a 1098-T if they had qualified charges or payments during the calendar year. By IRS requirement, forms must be furnished to students no later than January 31.
NeSIS campuses continue to use the IRS-required “Payments Received” reporting method, which replaced the older “Amounts Billed” approach in 2017. Using this method means the amounts shown on the form reflect actual payments posted within the tax year, not charges.
How the 1098-T Process Works in PeopleSoft:
PeopleSoft includes a series of delivered steps that help campuses prepare accurate and timely forms:
* Creating 1098-T records
* Validating addresses and SSNs
* Generating PDF forms for students
* Building the IRS electronic submission file
Students can give electronic consent and access their forms through the Student Dashboard, where they can view current and prior-year forms, drill into box amounts, and print an IRS-approved copy.
These processes support consistent, compliant reporting across all NeSIS institutions and help ensure students have the information they need for tax filing.

2025 Accessibility Review Project Update
Phase 1, focused on Error Logging and Remediation, is nearing completion and is expected to conclude by the end of the year. During this phase, NeSIS implemented the Axe-core tool to identify accessibility issues while campus communities conducted testing for the fall PUM maintenance. Weekly accessibility error reports have been generated and securely stored in the NeSIS SharePoint site. and campus portal administrators have been collaborating through weekly meetings to address and resolve identified issues.
Phase 2, which will involve Keyboard-Only Navigation Testing, is scheduled to commence in January. Planning for Phase 3, Screen-Reader Testing, is underway; however, resources to support this phase have not yet been identified. Phase 3 is anticipated to begin in early 2026.
The accessibility review team remains on track to meet the compliance deadline of April 2026. At present, approximately 50% of the scheduled work has been completed.
