NeSIS eNews - September 2024

Moving Together Toward Tomorrow

HEUC 2024 is a few short weeks away and we are again looking forward to seeing familiar faces - and new ones, too! While the focus is on collaboration and learning, the true value is the time that is spent face to face, sharing ideas, experiences and laughs.

Here are a few things to remember before you come:

  • Agenda - The most up to date version of the conference agenda can be found on the conference website. This is also where you can access and complete evaluations of the sessions.

  • Events - Also check out the conference website for details of the other events that are happening during the conference - the community outreach project, the Wednesday night Social Event and the Thursday morning group walk.

  • Parking - The conference is being held at the UNK Student union, so all attendees will need to be parked in an appropriate spot. Details about parking options will be sent to registered attendees beforehand. Since parking is limited, we are asking attendees to carpool from their hotels or other meeting spots if possible.

  • Presentations - Afterward, the presentations from the conference will be available

    for your reference.

July 2024 NeSIS Award Winner

The NeSIS Employee Shining Impactful Superstar award winner for July 2024 was Frank Dolezal.

Andrea Childress: “I’m happy to announce that the winner for July 2024 is Frank Dolezal who has led his team to another successful and thankfully uneventful PeopleTools upgrade. Although it’s a full team effort and you all deserve credit, Frank’s expertise and years of experience are very impactful in getting this done without major showstopping issues. From my view, the prep work that goes into these upgrades is key to a smooth project and the experience, expertise, work ethic, and calm demeaner Frank brings to the table are big contributors to success. Frank is a caring, thoughtful, and strategic leader who exudes these characteristics daily with every interaction he has. He is great example of why NeSIS stands out in its excellence. Thank you, Frank!”

Replace Campus Community Source Tables with Query Views

In troubleshooting an issue with queries not returning the correct data, the NeSIS team determined that there are several records that had additional security assigned to them that should not be used when building queries in PS Query. This could cause queries that include those records to not be pulling back data correctly. To resolve the issue, the impacted records in queries should be replaced with the view for that record. The list of impacted records and their corresponding view is below.

Do Not Use These Records

Use this PS Query View Instead

ADDRESSES

ADDRESS_NPC_VW

CITIZENSHIP

SCC_CITIZEN_QVW

DIVERS_ETHNIC

SCC_DIV_ETH_QVW

EMAIL_ADDRESSES

SCC_EMAIL_QVW

NAMES

SCC_NAMES_QVW

PERSON

SCC_PERS_SA_VW

PERS_NID

SCC_PERS_NI_QVW

VISA_PMT_DATA

SCC_VISA_P_QVW

The NeSIS Team has developed a plan and timeline for addressing the use of the deprecated records to ensure the correct ones are being used:

  • Done -  Identify queries using the impacted records.

  • In Progress -  Remove security from any delivered queries that contain the impacted records. None of these delivered queries are currently being used and removing security to the queries will ensure they cannot be used going forward.

  • In Progress – Remove security from any impacted records not being used. There are several additional records in addition to the ones listed above that are not currently being used. Removing security to these records will ensure that they cannot be used in queries going forward.

  • In Progress – Rename the impacted records.

  • In Progress – Reviewing the impact on WebFOCUS fexes. Will provide more information when a plan has been developed.

  • 12/31/24 – Campuses update their queries that are currently using the impacted records to use the view record instead.

    • A query has been developed (NBA_HR_SPLIT_TBLS_CAMPUS) that identifies the queries that need to be updated. It displays the user that wrote the query, the query name and the record that needs to be updated and which record to use instead.

    • This query will identify any queries using the impacted records in dashboard query sections, eforms, workflow, but Message Center SQLs will need to be reviewed.

  • 1/1/25 – Remove security to the bad records completely. This will ensure they cannot be used in queries going forward.

Requesting Access to Test Email Accounts

The process for accessing the test NeSIS email accounts has changed. The passwords for the Test NeSIS email account and the Sailpoint Test email account will be changing at least once a quarter, and you will need to complete a form to obtain the new password. This allows us to better secure these accounts and protect the data they contain and to track who has been given access. The passwords for both accounts were updated on 8/28/24.

A page is available in SharePoint with more details on what those email accounts are used for, links to the form for each account and instructions on accessing the email accounts once you have the password.

Please contact a member of the NeSIS Team if you have questions.
