Dear Big Ten colleague,
Many of you will remember Shalin Jyotishi from his time at APLU. He send this message (some of you may also have received it). I don't have examples of the type he is looking for, but perhaps one of you might? Please let me know. Thanks, Laurie

I'm now working https://www.newamerica.org/our-people/shalin-jyotishi/ at the think-and-do-tank New America in Washington, DC where I serve as Senior Advisor for Education, Labor, and Future of Work. At New America, I have gotten the chance to go deep on higher ed-based economic and community engagement from the standpoint of community colleges, especially from the perspective of workforce development and career and technical education.
We have a large body of work around how community colleges can meet students' basic needs and I have been asked to write a story for a media outlet about what the possibilities could be if community engagement offices prioritized *community colleges *as partners with an eye towards meeting basic needs of CC students. It could involve service learning, engaged research, or university-level projects to address CC students' broadband access and quality, addressing housing and food insecurity, access to affordable childcare, engaged research projects to support data and digitalization projects at the college, etc. The possibilities are endless from my vantage point, but the examples few.
I have enough intel to demonstrate the 'art of the possible,' but I'm wondering if you have any examples of community engagement projects that meet the needs of *community colleges* as community-based organizations and especially their students' basic needs. If so, would be willing to interview with me on the record for inclusion in my story?
If you have leads of other engagement leaders who might have some solid examples - I'd be ever grateful. Many thanks and please do reach out if New America can ever support your work.
Very best, Shalin
