Dr. Wei Niu completely her B.S. degree in Chemistry and M.S. degree in Biophysics from Tsinghua University in China. She received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Michigan State University in 2004 under the supervision of Professor John W. Frost. After spending years in biotech companies, she returned to academia and joined the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2015. Her research focuses on synthetic biology with special interests in microbial metabolic engineering, protein engineering, and genetic code expansion. She is one of the team members of Genomatica Inc. to receive the 2011 Presidential Green Chemistry Award for Bio-BDO project.
