Kurt Piepenbrink, PhD Assistant Professor Department of Food Science and Technology Department of Biochemistry The University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Dr. Piepenbrink’s research focuses on understanding the ability of bacteria to interact with their environment. In particular, projects in the Piepenbrink group aim to identify and characterize specific biomolecular interactions underpinning host adhesion, biofilm formation, DNA-uptake and motility, combining integrative structural biology with quantitative biochemistry, multi-resolution imaging and microbial genetics, and providing trainees at all levels with opportunities to develop as independent scientists. In addition to his appointments in the Departments of Food Science and Technology and Biochemistry at UNL, Dr. Piepenbrink is a member of the Nebraska Food for Health Center and the Nebraska Center for Integrated Biomolecular Communication. He received his B.A. in Chemistry and German Literature from The Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The University of Notre Dame.
