Hello. My name is Anthony Goulet. I am an author who resides in Texas. Our latest book, which was released on March 4th, 2025, is Broken Home, Healed Nest. Our publisher is Medicine Wheel Publishing. Broken Home, Healed Nest is a story about suicide prevention and intervention from an Indigenous and spiritual perspective, for ages 14 and up. I am honored and blessed to have coauthored this book with my friend, Pershlie "Perci" Ami, who is an author, actress, and elder from the Hopi tribe in Arizona. My full-time job is with Roy Maas Youth Alternatives in San Antonio and Boerne, Texas as the Director of Training. Before moving into the full-time role of Training Director, I worked for many years as a street-level Gang Interventionist and Street Outreach Worker in Dallas, Houston, and Montgomery County, Texas. I was on-call 24/7 for over a decade, facilitating human trafficking interventions, suicide interventions, and helping missing and runaway youth and young adults get to safety and reunite with safe relatives. It's been a journey! A journey I am grateful for. And so is my journey of being an author. Broken Home, Healed Nest Overview: Jessica has contemplated suicide for a while now. Grappling with the reverberating grief of losing her beloved grandmother and the trauma of a broken home, young Jessica is reaching a place so far from herself, her community, and the traditional Indigenous teachings she once lived by, it is frightening. When it all becomes too much, Jessica attempts to take the final step over the ledge. What follows is a journey through the sacred spaces within memory, song, and the spirit world, guided by two playful tricksters—eagles, who happen to have lifetimes of wisdom to share. With a love of riddles and soaring beyond the edges of possibility, they turn and twist Jessica’s reality until she can finally ground herself in what she has known all along, and allow the love, strength and voice of her beloved grandmother to once again be remembered and heard. The trajectory of Jessica’s life will be changed forever. We’re excited about the upcoming field trip to Omaha on Friday, December 6th, where students will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass, and participate in a lunch discussion. I’ve attached the itinerary and permission slip to this email. To ensure everything goes smoothly, here are the instructions for excusing your student’s absence: 1. Contact Your Student’s School Building: Families must contact the school directly to excuse their student’s absence. * The absence will be coded as a PA (Parent Excused Absence). * If the school is not contacted to excuse the absence, it will be coded as TR (Truant), which also counts toward the 20-absence threshold. * Please be aware that PA absences count toward the 20-absence threshold. 2. Hello Relatives! Greetings from the chilly, misty Wednesday morning. We will start in the greenhouse on Saturday and finish in the classroom. Please bring your journals! Remember those? We're starting our dive into entrepreneurship: setting prices, structuring a business, etc. You'll want to take notes. Depending on how the morning goes, we may be able to also touch back in with Braiding Sweetgrass, so please read or listen to Chapter 4, An Offering. Saturday starts in the greenhouse

Hello relatives, I hope this message finds each of you healthy, and well connected with your community. This Saturday, we will begin in the greenhouse. There are quite a lot of white sage plants to transplant, which is very exciting For reasons we will cover on Saturday. We will end the morning over at the classroom with a little bit of discussion about chapter 4 and lunch. We would go further with chapter 4 next week also. The greenhouse should be a fairly pleasant temperature, but probably not shorts and T-shirt weather. I still prefer close toed shoes in work settings. We build community breaking bread together at lunch, discussions that feel potentially right now are creating bonds, developing leadership skills, and sowing seeds that may not germinate for decades to come. CHILLY Saturday in the CHILLY garden- you can do this!

It's November and while there are indeed still things growing and going in the garden, it's time to pull up the irrigation, take down and stow the trellises, flip and then fold those tarps, stack the bricks beside the shed, and sprinkle some woodchips and chicken poo over the whole site. It's NOT going to be warm that morning, though we'll all warm up as we work. Come in layers- maybe you want long johns or leggings under your jeans, maybe a tshirt under a flannel shirt under a sweatshirt under a vest? Decent socks go a long way, as does a little bandana around your neck. You get the idea. It'll feel like slightly too much when you leave the house, slightly too little around 9:30 or 9:45, and then by 11 you'll have taken off a few layers (so maybe bring a bag to stuff your stuff in?) It's a beautiful time of year- the trees are turning, the birds are gathering, the wind is singing a variety of tunes. The tired of a body that has worked hard in chilly air is a glorious thing, a very satisfying way to know you are alive and young and vital and vigorous.
