Where we will meet:
This week we will be meeting in the Plant Sciences classroom on the second floor.
Before Class:
🌻 Indoor Garden Activity:
* Before class, I invite you to think about these questions as we start planning the garden this week! * Do you have any favorite plants? * Do you prefer fruits or vegetables? * What fruits or vegetables interest you? To grow? To taste? * Do you prefer perennial or annual plants? * What are some culturally important plants/foods to your family? * What are your favorite meals - what are some ingredients that come from plants? * What are your favorite colors?
📕 Please read Chapter 3 of Braiding Sweetgrass The Gift of Strawberries before class and write down some of your thoughts and reflections in your notebook.
Some questions to help get you started:
* Have you ever received a homemade gift? How did it feel to receive it? Did you feel a deeper relationship or sense of responsibility to this homemade gift to a store bought one? Why or why not? * How in our modern world, can we find our way to understand the earth as a gift again? * What happens to our perception and connection to the world when we feel the natural world is communicating with us? Do you remember a time where you felt spoken to by the wind? The birds outside your window? The sun's rays shining on your face? How does this change your relationship with the world?
What we will be doing:
* 9am Cultural Teaching: The Gift of Strawberries. We will start out with the cultural teaching from this week's Braiding Sweetgrass chapter. * 10:30am Indoor Classroom Activity: Garden Planning! Then we will have some time vision out the garden for this year, what we want to grow, and how we want to design it. * 11:30/noon Lunch
