Dr. Silvana Martini has been appointed as the incoming head of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, effective July 1, 2024. Prior to her appointment, Dr. Martini served as a professor in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences at Utah State University starting in 2005. On Monday, May 6th, 2024, the Department held it's annual Recognition Banquet. students, staff, and Faculty were honored for their achievements during the 2023-2024 school year. The guest speaker was alum Tim Anderson who spoke about his experience as a student and food science professional. Dr. Curt Weller was also honored for his work as Department Head; he will be returning to faculty.

Jay Diversity in Food Safety Award will be presented to Dr. Byron Chaves at the International Association for Food Protection 2024 meeting in July in Long Beach, CA.
