Good afternoon!
This is a reminder that we will be meeting for the first class of the 2024 UNL Indigenous Food Sovereignty Program tomorrow Saturday, January 20th.
Where to meet: Class will meet from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon in room 280 in the Plants Science Building on UNL’s East Campus (1875 N 38th St., Lincoln 68503). You can enter the building on the north side of the building by the parking lot, and then take the elevator or stairs to the second floor to room 280. Please sign in when you enter the room. Parents/grandparents are welcome to come in and attend the class as well. There is also a map attached.
To bring on Saturday:
* If you are a 2024 student or mentor, please bring with you your social security number (just the number written down, we do not need the actual card) so you can complete paperwork for your quarterly stipend.
This Saturday, you will receive your UNL backpack and classroom supplies including the book “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Kimmerer an Indigenous botanist. We will be reading chapters from the book during the winter months. For this Saturday’s class, we will do the following activities:
* Prayer and Teaching * Introductions * Icebreakers * Clans * Give-away of UNL supplies * Introduction of book “Braiding Sweetgrass” * Lunch and Announcements
